Immediate Call for Help: Hurricane Helene Relief

Updated: Oct 1

Hurricane Helene has left a trail of destruction in its wake, from the Florida Gulf up through Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Western North Carolina. The scale of the disaster is immense, with much of Western North Carolina experiencing a flood that one meteorologist described as a one-in-one-thousand-year event. Homes, businesses, hospitals, food supplies, and entire communities have been submerged or wiped out.

The immediate appeal for relief is urgent and crucial. We need your immediate response to help those affected by Hurricane Helene. There are three ways to respond.

  1. PRAY—Pray for all those affected, for those responding—emergency services personnel, swift water rescue teams, utility personnel, government agencies, the UMCOR Emergency Response Teams and other specialized groups of volunteers who will make their way to the scene, and for families disconnected to be reunited.

  2. GIVE—UMCOR is our United Methodist Committee on Relief, supporting disaster recovery and relief around the globe and with partners in Annual Conferences domestically (We are partnering with the Western North Carolina Conference). UMCOR's administrative operations are funded in part by our weekly offering through the apportionments. Special Gifts for Hurricane and other disaster relief then convey dollar for dollar to the need. You can make gifts through Westminster. Checks/Cash can be given through the Sunday offering or the Church office. You can also give online. Please designate gifts for Hurricane Relief.

  3. Cleaning Kits - Flood cleanup is a top priority, following the safety of human life. Cleaning kits (aka Flood Buckets) provide families and teams with basic items for mucking out flooded homes and businesses. Please use the link below to view a list of kit items and tips for packing. You can also watch the UMCOR Video Tutorial on how to pack a kit. Complete kits or items can be dropped off at the church office for delivery to our Conference Disaster Relief collection point.
