The Leadership Team serves as the primary governing body of Westminster United Methodist Church. This team discerns vision and strategy for our life together and guides the church as we live out our mission: to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

 

Under this structure, the Leadership Team carries the responsibilities traditionally held by Church Council, Staff-Parish Relations, Finance, and Trustees. By bringing these roles together, leadership remains connected, prayerful, and responsive—allowing us to focus more fully on ministry and less on administration.

 

The Leadership Team meets regularly to listen for God’s direction, steward the church’s resources, support staff and ministry leaders, and help Westminster remain faithful to Christ’s call in our community and beyond.

Supporting Teams & Membership

​

The Nominations & Leadership Development Team supports the church by discerning, inviting, and developing leaders for faithful service. Members include Rev. Dennis Peay, Barbara Smith (Lay Leader), Mike Wiggins (Class of 2028), Mary Rouse (Class of 2027), and Lynwood Reeves (Class of 2026).

The Personnel Team partners with the Leadership Team to oversee non-appointed staff and support healthy working relationships within the church. Members include Debbie Reeves (Class of 2028), Camille Ruff (Class of 2027), and Neal Beirise (Class of 2026).

Trustees Task Forces, named as needed by the Leadership Team, focus on specific areas of care and oversight. These include Building & Grounds, led by Larry Lanning; Safer Sanctuaries & Security, led by John Willis; Insurance, led by Scott Crocker; and the Scholarship Taskforce, to be named.

​

Finance Task forces, also named by the Leadership Team, support financial accountability and generosity within the church. These include the Counting Team and the Fundraising Team.

​

The Preschool Board provides partnership and oversight for Westminster Preschool, one of the church’s most vital ministries. The board includes Pat Humphries (Chair), Sherry Crocker (Class of 2028), Jimi Pope (Class of 2027), Faye Barker (Class of 2026), Susan Price (Preschool Director), Rev. Dennis Peay (Pastor), Children & Family Ministry staff, and Preschool staff members Wilma Parker and Nancy Lee serving ex officio.

Core Ministry Teams, named by the Leadership Team, lead the church’s ongoing ministries of care, hospitality, worship, formation, and service. These include the Mission Team led by Wanda Outlaw and Linda Smith; Care and Connecting with Existing Members led by Debbie Chused and team; Fellowship Meals led by Barbara Smith and team; Flower Ministry led by Jane Garner; Altar Guild led by Jane Garner and Janet Bennett; Children’s Ministry led by staff and volunteers; Ushers led by Lynwood Reeves; Welcome and Hospitality; Worship Tech Ministries; and the Prayer Shawl Ministry led by Ann Robinson and Faye Barker.
